The NCCS Flat Stanley Project

                              Sponsor:  Kerri Rogers

Who is Flat Stanley?  He’s a character in Jeff Brown’s book Flat Stanley who was flattened when a

bulletin board fell on him.  He’s perfectly fine, just flat, and is able to do many unique things because

he’s flat such as: be folded and mailed to another city, fly like a kite, and slip into cracks to retrieve

things.

For a second year, NCCS will host a Flat Stanley project allowing you and your student to color a

cardstock Flat Stanley and send him anywhere in the U.S. or abroad to visit a “host” family of your

choosing.

It’s as simple as 1, 2, 3:

#1   Choose a host family by asking someone if they’d like to receive your Flat Stanley for a

visit.  Now you need to get him ready by coloring, decorating and cutting out our card stock

template of Stanley.

#2   Mail your colored Flat Stanley to your host family with the host letter we provide.  Your

host family will take Stanley with them to places in their town and record his visit by taking

pictures with him.  They might take pictures with him at points of interest, landmarks, parks,

restaurants, airports, with pets…the possibilities are endless!

#3   After a couple weeks with the host family, Stanley should be mailed back to you to

report on his trip.  Along with Stanley, your host can mail back brochures, local foliage,

restaurant menus, etc. as well as pictures they’ve taken with Stanley.  Gather that info.

together and bring it to the school office to be posted on our Flat Stanley bulletin board.

For more information and to be sent templates for Stanley and the host letters, please email Kerri

Rogers at kerri@cfl.rr.com.   Once you’ve decided on where your Flat Stanley will be visiting make

sure to let Kerri know so that we can mark on our world map where our Flat Stanley’s are vacationing!

Have fun!
