So What's the Enrollment Process Like for Students in Grades 9-12?
Becoming enrolled with NCS will take about 2-3 weeks. Several steps are involved as listed below. Since each student is different and each family is also different, the procedure may vary somewhat.
- First, you will need to attend an information meeting. We suggest this even for those who were enrolled with us in the past, so that they can be fully aware of all new programs and processes. See information meeting schedule.
- You will need to fill out a complete set of enrollment papers. A notary is on-site for you, or you may have your own notary notarize your papers. All information should be completed, or delays can be expected.
- We will need to see your student's records from the last school. This is what takes the most time. You can expedite this process by asking your previous school to fax the records to us at 321-724-6932 and then to mail us a copy. Hand-carried copies will be considered as unofficial.
- Students in grades 9-12 will select one of the major emphasis areas toward graduation. Brochures for each area are available in the school tract rack.
- Students in grades 9-12 will receive a credits evaluation that indicates what credits NCS has accepted and what credits still need to be completed for graduation.
- Students who have not had an approved standardized test in the last 9 months will need to schedule a WRAT test. The WRAT test takes 30-45 minutes, depending upon the student's age. Approved testing does not include the FCAT. This testing is only to determine the starting point in your student's program. We do not view testing as an absolute view of your student, but we need a means to benchmark your student's work with NCS. We also use these results or the results from a previous testing to help determine curricula.
- Parents will then receive a letter of acceptance of enrollment at NCS, along with ID cards.
- Students will receive testing in learning styles and working styles. This will aid us in helping you direct your student's studies.
- Payment of registration fees must be made.
- A curricula meeting will occur to go over the curricula of each student.
- The teaching parent(s) will attend a short seminar to aid them in understanding paperwork, services, and opportunities to be used by them and their student(s).
- The teaching parent will be assigned to a staff mentor. This mentor will serve as a regular primary contact with the parent as well as work to coordinate all the family's services at NCS.
- At the end of the first semester with NCS, the teaching parent will attend one of several parent group meetings designed to give us feedback to help you with your student's education as well as improve our program.
