I left Hawaii (Aug 99-May 03) in May and I am now stationed at Fort Meade, MD, where I work at the Infomation Warfare Support Center (IWSC) of the National Security Agency (NSA). I attended a 4 1/2 month Signals Intelligence Analysis course enroute from Hawaii to Maryland (I was the Honor Graduate of the 12 students in my class). I did not go overseas with the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) from June to December of last year, during which time we were in the Middle East area including going ashore to work in Djibouti (August) and Kuwait (October). The trip also included port visits to Singapore, Bahrain (x2), Darwin Australia, and Guam. Before the deployment I was in California for six months, so it was a long trip.
I will write again soon, I am off to work.
Michael Stansfield

12/26/03: Dan Exley writes: "I am an appkication Analyst for Evanston Northwestern Healthcare. I am a Certified Cardiac Technician by CCI International, and am also certified by Epic Ststems Corporation of Madison, WI, to implement EpicCare Inpatient and EpicCare Emergency Department. In my current position at ENH, I am the lead implementation/project coordinator for analyzing, planning, building, impleing, and supporting the Epic electronedical record system for our 3 Emergency Department (two are Level II Trauma Centers and on Level I Trauma Center) as well as implementing Epic in our 150+ Hospital Outpatient Departments (Cath Lab, Vascular La, GI Lab, Physical Therapy, etc.--most of the departments that treat both inpatients and outpatients). As a result of the Epic project, ENH is getting rid of all their paper charts. Patient documentation is typed or templated into the EMR (electronic medical records). Instead of scrawling their orders on paper to be transcribed by a unit secretary, physicians are entering the orders themselves into the computer. This reduces errors and allows for the orders to transmit to the performing departments much faster. All medication administration documentation id also done in the EMR as well. Our goal is to "revolutionize the practice of nursing in America", while at the same time reduce errors and increase the efficiency."
