History

New Covenant Christian School began in 1983 as a typical, small private Christian classroom school with a Kindergarten class only.  In 1984, First Grade was added.  In 1985, with the passing of the Florida Home Education Act, NCCS added a Home School Division, with Buzz Daniel as its head.

When Mr. Daniel transferred to another part of Florida, the BOD selected Mrs. Sandra Hancock as head of the Home School Division, until another head could be selected.  At that point, the HSD had a chair in the Day School Office and held meetings and office hours once a week.  The school secretary lobbied for a desk to be added and was successful.

In succeeding years, NCCS grew in both its Day School and Home School Division, with the Day School adding a grade each year and the Home School Division growing by leaps and bounds.

Realizing that the facility did not have classrooms of adeqate size to ensure both an adequate classroom enrollment to sustain teacher salaries as well as quality education, the BOD decided to stop operating the Day School Division while keeping the Home School Division.  With the end of the Day School, the designation "Home School Division" was dropped and NCCS became a school of only home schooled students.  Mrs. Hancock became Principal.  She shared an office with the daycare director.  As the school continued to prosper and grow, the BOD gave NCCS its own office in the North Wing of the NCF facility.

Mrs. Joan Exley was then added to the staff of NCCS, to assist in clerical duties, home visitations, and advisement.  Mrs. Exley later resigned to spend more time with her own three boys.  Mrs. Bonnie Stebbins was added to the staff as Assistant Principal, working in accounts, advisement, records keeping, and editorship of the Pathways newsletter.  Mrs. Exley came back on staff for a number of years.  She resigned from NCCS when her youngest son graduated in May of 2001.

Mrs. Helen Badger became of member of the staff when she became the person in charge of the information meetings held for inquiring parents.  She also assists parents in grading compositions and work samples as well as general advisor activities.  Mrs. Badger has sense moved onward in her career, and now works at Brevard Community College as a composition advisor in their student assistance program.

In 2002, Mrs. Connie Spangler joined the staff to assist with student records and as an advisor.   In 2003, NCCS added to its staff when Mrs. Vicky Mathews joined us as the bookkeeper.  She and her family have since moved to California.  Mrs. Connie Wooley became curricula advisors for the summer registration periods, she continues to assist at the school.  Mrs. Suzanne Wooley also joined as Data Base Manager in the Spring of 2003. She helped at the school until her son graduated in 2006.

Jeanette Stiers joined our staff as our accounts manager.  She is now assisted by Connie Wooley.  In the spring of 2009, Mrs. Spangler moved to Virginia with her family.

The school office occupied two rooms plus a beautiful library as well as a storage area for videos, audios, science equipment, and some curricula at the Church on the Rock facility. In 2006, the school was moved to a storefront building at 1926 Babcock Street.

In 2009, NCCS was notified by the state of Florida that they were about to begin widening Babcock Street at our location, consuming all our parking lot in the process.  After much searching and seeking God's will, we found a new home next to Melbourne Square Mall, in the three-story building on the southwest corner of the mall's parking area.  In December of 2009, we moved into our current offices at 1990 W New Haven, Suites 306 and 307.  Suite 306 is used for the administrative offices and a teaching area, while suite 307 primarily houses the library and resource center and a project workroom.  Large group classes are held off-site, primarily at Church on the Rock Melbourne, across from Palm Bay High School's stadium on Babcock St.

We continue to be blessed by God in the addition to and development of our resources.  Our hope is to continue being a blessing to the parents.  We serve the God of the Impossible, and only He knows what we will become.
