Probation and Expulsion Standards

Probation:

There are two types of probation for families and students at NCCS.  Neither type is meant to punish a family but is an attempt to make sure that the student and family is not "falling between the cracks."  Probation shows our concern for the family and student and requires us to keep in closer touch with them.

Academic Probation:

When a student has not shown progress commensurate with his/her ability, a student will be placed on Academic Probation.  If a student's Stanford Achievement Test scores do not reflect significant progress from his/her previous test scores, parents will be asked to meet with the Principal to discuss the situation.  Parents will have the option of a retest of the student using the Wide Range Achievement Test (WRAT).  If such scores do not show adequate progress, the student will be placed on Academic Probation.

While a student is on Academic Probation, the parent will:

  1. Submit a work sample in each area of concern along with their monthly report form EVERY MONTH.  If the area of concern is reading, the parent will describe the work done that month by the student.
  2. Student will retest between semesters to further evaluate their progress.
  3. At the Principal's discretion, the parent may be required to bring in their plan book and grade book and work samples rather than merely submit the sample.

Academic Probation lasts for one year until the next year's test results are available.  At such time, the student's progress will again be checked.  The retest option is still available.  If at that time, commensurate progress is not evident, the Principal and Assistant Principal will meet with the parents to discuss further options, which may include:

  1. A restructuring of the student's program to allow a second probationary period.  This would include changes in parental and family lifestyle, curriculum changes, increased accountability, and tutoring.
  2. Removal from NCCS and a return to a public or private school setting.

Adminstrative Probation:

A family is placed on Administrative Probation when that family fails to comply with the stated policies of NCCS.  A family can be placed on Administrative Probation for several reasons including, but not restricted to, the following:

  1. More than one unexcused absence from a small group meeting in any semester.
  2. Unexcused absences from any large group meeting.
  3. An excessive number of excused absences from either/or small/large group meetings.
  4. Failure to submit paperwork within 21 days of its first due date.
  5. Repeated failure to submit paperwork within 7 days of its first due date.
  6. Failure to pay fees or tuition WITHOUT explanation to the school.
  7. Destructive activities on the part of parent or student (foul language, vandalism, substance abuse, abuse of children, abuse of staff, gossip, legal misconduct, immoral conduct, dishonesty, theft, etc.)
  8. Failure to answer letters or phone calls from the NCCS authorities.
  9. A pattern of tardiness at group meetings.
  10. Habitual early leaving from group meetings.
  11. Lack of cooperation or participation at group meetings.
  12. Failure to exercise due control of children at group meetings (includes violation of Church Building and Grounds Rules, biting, hitting, foul language, etc.)
  13. Repeated violations of the Dress Code.

If any of the above occur, the Principal will send a letter to the parents notifying them of the Administrative Probation, the reason for the probation, and the length of time the family wll be on probation.  If the parents wish to discuss the situation, they should schedule an appointment with the Principal.

During the time the family is on Administrative Probation, they will be expected to follow all policies of NCCS.  Should the family fulfill their probation period without incident, probation will be lifted.  If, however, there is any failure to comply with those policies, the principal will begin the process of expelling the family from NCCS.
